Take care of your jewelry

All our jewelry is made by hand in our workshop in Rotterdam. Sustainable precious metals such as silver, 14 carat gold, precious stones and freshwater pearls are processed into the most beautiful jewellery. Nevertheless, jewelry is fragile and you will enjoy it the longest if you wear it with care.

Below are a number of tips to keep your jewelry beautiful for as long as possible:

  • Take off your jewelry when you go to sleep.
  • Do not spray perfume on your jewelry (it contains alcohol) or on the place where you wear your jewelry.
  • Avoid contact with cleaning agents and other chemicals.
  • Do not wear your jewelry when exercising, swimming or during other strenuous physical work.

Cleaning and cleaning jewelry

Silver tends to discolor when it comes into contact with sulfur or oxygen. This is called oxidation and the silver turns a bit darker. This is a natural process and can be cleaned with a polishing cloth or silver polish .

If you are not wearing jewelry, it is best to store it in a plastic bag with a ziploc closure to keep it oxygen-free.

Gold plating

The basis of every gold plated piece of jewelery is always 925 sterling silver. All our silver jewelry is plated with a gold layer of 3 microns, in the gold color 18 kt. This finish may fade with time. The duration of the gilding depends very much on how you handle your jewelry. Below are some tips to enjoy your gold-plated jewelery for as long as possible:

  • Take off your jewelry when you go to sleep.
  • Take off your jewelry when you wash your hands. Never use scrub soap.
  • Take off your jewelry at the beach to prevent the sand from abrading the gold.
  • Take off your jewelry during heavy physical work.
  • And of course also if you are going to exercise or swim.

Has your gilding faded? We can re-gild your jewelry at cost price. We only offer this service for jewelery from our own workshop. Use the return form or bring your jewelry to the store for a refresh.

Pearls are beautiful, but need proper care. We recommend putting them on last and taking them off first. Pearls are fragile, avoid contact with chemicals in make-up, hair spray, hair dye and perfume. Exposing pearls to hot-cold differences can cause pearls to become loose. Take them off as much as possible when you swim, wash your hands and shower. Avoid contact with vinegar and other acids. Pearls will shine extra when they come into contact with your skin. Do you want to clean them? Then use a soft, slightly damp cloth.

Gold and gems

Gold jewelry that contains stones can trap dirt in the setting. Usually this is easy to remove with soapy water and a very soft brush, for example an old children's toothbrush. The soap then dissolves the grease and you simply brush away the dirt residues. Even with a polishing cloth, your gold jewelry will shine again! Scratches that arise after a number of years of wear can be polished away by us. You can bring your gold jewelery for a service. In addition to polishing, we also clean the jewelry and carefully check the settings. This service is only available for 14 or 18 carat gold jewelry that comes from our workshop. A service costs € 15 per piece of jewelry.
