Take care of your jewelry

All our jewelry is made by hand in our workshop in Rotterdam. Sustainable precious metals such as silver, 14 carat gold, precious stones and freshwater pearls are processed into the most beautiful jewellery. Nevertheless, jewelry is fragile and you will enjoy it the longest if you wear it with care.

Below are a few tips to keep your jewelry beautiful for as long as possible:

  • Take off your jewelry when you go to sleep.
  • Do not spray perfume on your jewelry (it contains alcohol) or on the place where you wear your jewelry.
  • Avoid contact with cleaning agents and other chemicals.
  • Do not wear your jewelry when you play sports, swim or during other heavy physical work.

Cleaning and cleaning jewelry

Silver tends to discolor if it comes into contact with sulfur or oxygen. This is called oxidizing and the silver turns a bit darker. This is a natural process and can be cleaned with a polishing cloth or silver polish .

If you are not wearing jewelry, it is best to store it in a plastic bag with a ziploc closure to keep it oxygen-free.

The basis of every gold-plated piece of jewelry is always 925 sterling silver. All our silver jewelry is plated with a gold layer of 3 microns, in the gold color 18k. This finish may fade with time. The duration of the gilding is very dependent on how you handle your jewelry. Below are some tips to enjoy your gold-plated jewelry for as long as possible:

  • Take off your jewelry when you go to sleep.
  • Take off your jewelry when you wash your hands. Never use scrub soap.
  • Remove your jewelry on the beach to prevent the sand from scouring the gold.
  • Remove your jewelry during heavy physical work.
  • And of course also when you go for sports or swimming.

Has your gilding faded? We can gild your jewelry again at cost. We only offer this service for jewelery from our own workshop. Use the return form or bring your jewelry to the store for a refresh.

Pearls are beautiful, but need proper care. We recommend putting it on last and off first. Pearls are fragile, avoid contact with chemicals in make-up, hairspray, hair dye and perfume. By exposing pearls to hot-cold differences, pearls can become loose. Take them off as much as possible when you swim, wash your hands, and shower. Avoid contact with vinegar and other acids. Pearls will shine extra when they are in contact with your skin. Do you want to clean them? Then use a soft, slightly damp cloth.

Gold and Gems

Gold jewelry in which stones are incorporated can retain dirt in the setting. This is usually easy to remove with soapy water and a very soft brush, such as an old children's toothbrush. The soap will then dissolve the grease and you can simply brush away the dirt residues. Even with a polishing cloth your gold jewelry will shine again! Scratches that arise after a number of years of wear can be polished away by us. You can bring your gold jewelry in for service. In addition to polishing, we also clean the jewelry and check the settings carefully. This service is only available for 14- or 18-carat gold jewelery from our workshop. A service costs €15 per piece of jewelry.
